Bricks & Clicks
The Rockford Register Star is more than a newspaper: the ink on print or the “bricks” in the News Tower. We’re a multimedia news and information company: the “clicks” on our Web site and the TV clips on WREX-13. This blog explains our fast-changing media environment and interacts with our readers to show how and why we do what we do.

A piece of history

We have tools beyond the newspaper to report election results these days: radio, TV, the Web, cell phones and so on. But there’s something nostalgic and meaningful about newspaper front pages.

Last night I saw NBC airing Obama front pages, and the Web collects hundreds of them, thanks to the Newseum, which is loading slowly today, darn it.

The Nov. 5 Register Star front page played it straight, like many papers did: “Obama wins.” The photo of the Obama family we chose also was used by other papers.

Now this photo is making the rounds, of people lining up to buy a piece of history.

My apologies

I didn’t blog as much as I thought I would today. For that, I’m sorry. It’s been a busy, history-making day and I am just getting a chance to collect my thoughts. Barack Obama is our president-elect. That’s something. I’ve been up for 20 hours, so now’s not the time for me to share my reflections on the day that was. I’ll write more later today. After I’ve gotten some sleep.
