Bricks & Clicks
The Rockford Register Star is more than a newspaper: the ink on print or the “bricks” in the News Tower. We’re a multimedia news and information company: the “clicks” on our Web site and the TV clips on WREX-13. This blog explains our fast-changing media environment and interacts with our readers to show how and why we do what we do.

Would you pay for rrstar.com content?

My boss Linda Grist Cunningham asked readers that question a week ago. And the post is definitely getting people talking.

Yes, the TV book is back

1 comment March 9th, 2009

If you didn’t see the note in Sunday’s newspaper, we’ve resumed full distribution of What’s On TV.

You can find the week’s worth of TV listings wrapped around the comics, coupons and ad fliers.

Last month, the Register Star had started an “opt-in” program, meaning if you wanted the TV book you’d get it but if you didn’t, you wouldn’t. The goal was to cut costs, but demand in the market for the book was so great, this move did not end up saving money.

Live mayoral debate on rrstar.com Tuesday

3 comments March 6th, 2009

On Tuesday, we plan to stream on rrstar.com a live debate between the Rockford mayoral candidates. Larry Morrissey, the Independent incumbent, will face Democrat Doug Block, Republican John Harmon and Green candidate Jesus Correa IV. The debate will start at 1 p.m. here at the News Tower.

We’ve had spotty Internet connections here in the last couple of days. So as long as our connections are good, we’ll have the debate. Stay tuned for more information.

Every little bit helps

I’m not one of those ladies who has a whole organizer devoted to coupons. Actually, I used to before I had kids when I had time. But I do have a spot in my purse for them. I use them for takeout, drycleaning, haircuts and groceries.

Amid these tough times, coupons are as popular as ever. In addition to the ones we run in the Sunday newspaper, did you know that we have coupons on rrstar.com to print out?

Go for it!

Win a Wii Fit!

If you’ve ever tried Wii Fit, the exercise video game (program is probably a better word) made for the Nintendo Wii system, you probably “evangelize” about how great it is. At least I have.

I bought the game for my family for Christmas and didn’t intend to use it myself, but now I’m using it the most — three or four times a week. It’s just plain fun and a way to be active for 30 minutes instead of sitting on the couch.

This month, you have a chance to win Wii Fit when you sign up for a weekly newsletter from HealthyRockford.com. Of course, you have to have the Wii console for this to work. Good luck!
