Bricks & Clicks
The Rockford Register Star is more than a newspaper: the ink on print or the “bricks” in the News Tower. We’re a multimedia news and information company: the “clicks” on our Web site and the TV clips on WREX-13. This blog explains our fast-changing media environment and interacts with our readers to show how and why we do what we do.

No more predictions

Saw this on Romenesko today and thought it was interesting. Denver Post sports writers will not make any more game predictions. That’s an age-old practice in most newsrooms, including ours. Do you think sports reporters should or shouldn’t offer their opinions on upcoming games — pros, college or preps? Does it undermine their objectivity?

I don’t think it undermines credibility. Honestly, I don’t know that it really adds anyting to the coverage. I mean, if XYZ sportswriter thinks the Bears will win 21-17, does it really matter one way or the other? He or she is just taking what he/she knows and making a prediction. Doesn’t really matter either way in my mind.
