Bricks & Clicks
The Rockford Register Star is more than a newspaper: the ink on print or the “bricks” in the News Tower. We’re a multimedia news and information company: the “clicks” on our Web site and the TV clips on WREX-13. This blog explains our fast-changing media environment and interacts with our readers to show how and why we do what we do.

Dozens of people have entered the Go Green giveaway this week for natural air freshening products by Fresh Wave. Give it a shot yourself.

One reader says it works on cigar smoke!

I’m not alone

On the Go Green blog, that is.

Starting this week, members of the Local Foods Work Group will write weekly about eating locally. Margaret Larson summed it up pretty well in her entry:

Our members will be sharing information from their world of local food, focusing on topics such as eating seasonally,  food preservation, nutrition, grower’s concerns and triumphs, livestock production, local foods issues such as food security and access, the ins and outs of farmers markets, how to get to know your farmer…..the list goes on and on. We’ll also announce our related activities and events and highlight opportunities for you to learn more — right here, each week.

Of course, if you are someone who has “green” expertise to share, I’m open to considering you as a guest blogger, too. Let me know!

Starting Sunday, Life&Style will get a little greener.

Inside, you’ll find a new weekly Go Green page devoted to local and national news, trends, events and advice that will help you be more Earth-friendly.

It also will include excerpts from my Go Green blog, which launched last May. If you have any questions, call Life&Style editor Lisa Glowinski at 815-987-1379.

Of course, remember to recycle your newspaper when you’re done!

the green challenge: try not to buy plastic

3 comments May 13th, 2008

this week for rockford woman, i’m trying to live without plastic. i was going to assign it to a reporter, but since i’ve been trying to be “greener,” i figured i’d just try it myself.

since that would be impossible (have you noticed how much stuff is made of plastic? your movies. your shoes. your toothbrush. the list goes on and on….), i’ll try not to buy any plastic. good thing i bought my mother’s day gift cards last week.
i’m blogging my diary but named the blog “go green” because it could end up becoming a permanent thing, especially if some environmentally smart folks volunteer to do so. wanna, huh? anyone?
