Christmas will be here soon, giving me a perfect opportunity to tell you about our Empty Stocking Club fundraiser.

The Register Star sponsors Empty Stocking, which dates back more than 30 years, to make sure every child in need in Winnebago County has at least one present to open during the holidays. Children also receive a pair of gloves or mittens during distribution.

Our goal this year is to raise $50,000. At this writing we’re just over $14,000. Learn how to donate and check out our searchable database of this year’s donors.

Found this article today when I googled “media.” David Armano of BusinessWeek says “online communication will get even more popular, more mobile and more exclusive.”

Not surprising, really. Especially if I look at just how I use Facebook.

Saw this on Romenesko today and thought it was interesting. Denver Post sports writers will not make any more game predictions. That’s an age-old practice in most newsrooms, including ours. Do you think sports reporters should or shouldn’t offer their opinions on upcoming games — pros, college or preps? Does it undermine their objectivity?
