Tuesday’s off-year election victories for Republicans in Virginia and New Jersey should send a caution signal to Democrats who run Congress and President Obama: You’ve gone too far left, come back to the center-right, where the majority of the country’s voters are.
Frankly, I’m horrified at the Democrats’ idea of health care reform. And their cap and trade energy bill is even worse.
Both bills will punish the middle class as well as the small and medium sized businesses that employ them. New taxes, reductions in Medicare and mind-numbing bureaucracy are not my idea of reform. Millions of jobs are at stake. And their health care bill does not come close to covering everybody.
At this point, “No” is the appropriate answer to Democratic bills on health care and energy. I think that’s what voters in Virginia and New Jersey were saying. (Results from NY 23 congressional race have not come in yet.)

Democrats too far left and Getting all wee-wee’d up!
Hey Chuck, you nailed it on the head! Obama, Pelosi and Reid better pay attention before this time next year. Average americans don’t like big government, higher taxes, and socialized medicine.
you are absolutely correct. Pelosi rule of congress for the last three years has left congress with a favorable rating in the low 20% range. Lost touch with the people……only seems interested in “what in it for them” and “how to get re-elected.” I have seen that as I have traveled the world…. but surprising to now see it dominate American politicians.
No,
The democrats don’t effectively counter the lies told about them by kook media. They also think (like the mayor) that they don’t have to sell anything once they’ve won the election. In politics you always have to sell your ideas.
There’s a lot of people in this country who want to believe feel-good ideas and the right effectively seduces these people with a few rhetorical appeals to the founding fathers, god or the patriotic cause of the day.
In the right wing, nothing needs to be changed, God is on our side, and the founding fathers would agree with you and if something is wrong it’s the fault of the left, the terrorists, the illegal immigrants or the unpopular like gays or poor people.
Reality is much harder to sell.
If your entire analysis is based on the NY-23 election and a couple of governor’s races, you shouldn’t make it assume the entire country is sending Obama a message.
Shawn: It isn’t necessary to lie about the Democrats, the truth is evidence enough of how misguided their policies are.
Shawn: It isn’t enough to believe feel good ideas. Someone has to pay for them. The people who have a little money and operate business or are about to start them are being sunk by large tax burdens. What will happen when these “golden goose” companies are killed?
The government is nothing without the taxes paid by people who work for these companeis. The owner himself paying those taxes would not be enough. Jobs create the oil (tax money) that governments run on. That is the message from econ 101 the taxpayers are trying to send the politicians currently in power. They are about to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.
On the basis of 2 gubernatorial elections (and discounting the congressional election in NY) you’re saying that the voters have rejected the Democratic legislative agenda in its entirety?
