Tumbleweed closing Wednesday

November 25th, 2008 at 11:42am Sean Driscoll

Tumbleweed Restaurant, 5494 E. State St., is closing its doors for good at the end of business Wednesday. General manager Steve Leist said the franchise owner, Diamondback Management, is closing seven stores as part of its bankruptcy proceedings. The restaurant employs 51 people.

“Our store was doing OK, but the economy as a whole is a drag on the company,” Leist said.

Leist said the doors will close at 11 p.m.

Go figure… a decent restaurant in the Rockford area and they have to close down…just like Damon’s, Cheddars, etc. But as you can see there are McDonalds and Burger Kings all over the place. About 1 every couple miles.

That’s too bad. The microwaved fish fillet (it had grill marks, but wasn’t grilled) and microwaved, dried, hard rice and corn that we had there (5 years ago) was fantastic! That was my last visit, though.

    Sometimes quality means something.

I walked in with my gf one time.

Ordered some Cokes, looked at the menu, left $3 on the table and walked out.

Nothing but the same old chain restaurant food.

    “It’s not the economy, stupid.”

The food was mediocre at best. That’s not what I would have in mind for “tex-mex” or whatever they called it.

I went there on three separate occasions. Each time someone’s steak was cold or hard or whatever. When you spend $30 or whatever on dinner, you expect something nice, not crap that you could’ve made at home.
