BP gas station on Charles Street in Rockford converting to Mobil

The BP gas station on Charles Street in Rockford is getting a face-lift and a name change.

The station, 2622 Charles St., will become a Mobil gas station and is expected to reopen later this week. It’s located in front of the Logli grocery store near Charles and Hunter Avenue.

Officials with the business said the station’s supply contract with BP expired, so they decided to link up with Mobil.

The station’s convenience store is closed temporarily while fuel pumps are changed out and new signage is
installed. The McDonald’s restaurant connected to the business is still open.

Work on the changeover started today is expected to finish by Wednesday or Thursday. Only the fuel supplier will be different — the business will still employ the same staff.

The station opened about 11 years ago and previously operated as an Amoco.

I really wish this station would have longer hours. My only guess is they are afraid of being robbed. Can’t say as I blame them, in this ultra violent town.
