Big (managerial) wheels keep on turnin’

I don’t like how Piniella is using Felix Pie so far this season, but can’t argue with Sunday’s events in the eighth.
Cubs had runners on first and second, one out, and Lou sent the left-handed Pie in to pinch-hit for catcher Henry Blanco against Phils reliever Tom Gordon. The Phillies countered by bringing in lefty reliever J.C. Romero, so Piniella came back with Geovany Soto, the better hitter, as a pinch-hitter for Pie.
The moves paid off for the Cubs when Soto hit an excuse-me single to right to tie the game 5-5.

I hope it is alright for a Sox fan to post a comment on a Cubs blog. I couldn’t find the RRStar blog dedicated to the Southsiders. No surprise there though. I’m sure the rest of the Sox fans out there would agree with me when I say that I’m growing increasingly tired of hearing about the Scrubs all of the time. 100 years and counting.
This is a classic and far too typical example. The Cubs won yesterday in extra innings on a throwing error, while the Sox recorded two grand slams in a dominating win. But, who makes the front cover of the sports page today? The Cubs of course.

It is more than all right for a Sox fan to comment on a Cubs blog, as long as the aforementioned fan is not insulting. Referring to the Chicago National League Ball Club, Inc., as the “Scrubs,” however, is insulting.
As far as Monday’s sports page placement, let’s review: The Sox beat the worst team in the A.L.; what’s the news in that? The Cubs and Phillies, two 2007 playoff teams, played a thrilling, extra-inning contest.
As for the Sox blog search, really, what would dominate such a blog? Complaints about the Cubs, of course. We have that blog created already.
Thank you for your readership.
