We’re always looking to be on the cusp, nay, the cutting edge here at C-Notes, and this post is no exception. Looking to increase visits to our corner here in the rrstar.com world, I’m going to add Poles to the discussion.

Clearly the greatest pitcher from Poland in Cubs, nay, Major League Baseball history is Moe Drabowsky.

Drabowsky card

Moe signed with the Cubs in 1956, and the following season went 13-15, a mark that trailed only Dick Drott’s 15-11 on the Cubs (they weren’t real good back then, you may have heard.) Drabowsky, a legendary prankster, had 11 wins and 11 saves for the 1969 expansion Kansas City Royals.

Excuse me, this update is coming in … we’re going to introduce polls. Of course. That makes more sense.

And we’ll get those polls to you just as soon as I take that refresher course on homonyms.

That’s right, Ned, don’t get involved

You know, I’m not going to guess whether Monday’s shoving match between vegetarian Prince Fielder and trounced lefty Manny Parra will spark the Milwaukee Brewers. Catching the ball with regularity and throwing to the correct base would probably do more to help the cause, but who am I to argue.

But I got incensed over Manager Ned Yost’s comments afterward. Granted, he’s not going to spill the Brewers’ dirty laundry, even though the basket spilled out in front of those annoying cameras. But here’s his quote, faithfully recorded by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

“It’s a little bit rude when your neighbors are fighting next door for you to go knock on the door and ask what happened. We handle it ourselves. It’s between us and it’s nobody’s business. But it wasn’t that big a deal.”

Great analogy, Ned! Don’t be rude if a husband is beating his wife to death next door! Wouldn’t want to offend Miss Manners!

Turn up your stereo so you don’t have to get involved.

It’s games like this …

… That give me faith in the Cubs. The Cubs came back after blowing a five-run lead to beat the Astros 11-7. That’s the kind of resiliency you look for down the stretch. That’s the kind of resiliency we haven’t seen from past Cubs teams.

It was good to see Kerry Wood out there again — and he only had to throw seven pitches. That should help the blister heal.

Brew-haha should keep Cubs on toes

Last night’s dugout scuffle between Prince Fielder and Manny Parra is a clear sign of frustration among the second place Brewers (or Fielder’s attack on Parra could simply be a side effect of meat withdrawal). It’s very reminiscent of the scrap between Carlos Zambrano and Michael Barrett.

Now, I know it isn’t that surprising for tensions between teammates to breakdown now and then. But, last season’s dugout fiasco was a turning point that lit a torch under the Cubs (with a little help from Lou Piniella getting tossed after a dirt and hat kicking tirade the next game).

The Brewers situation can go one of two ways: they either continue to buckle under pressure that began with last week’s sweep or they use it as motivation, much in the same way the Cubs did last season.

Team meltdown or no team meltdown, sweep or no sweep, the Brewers aren’t out of the NL Central race by any means. So, the Cubs should continue to be on high alert.

Let’s just hope Ned Yost doesn’t get tossed from tonight’s game.
