Fukudome vs. Fontenot

August 11th, 2008 at 02:19pm Wally Haas

Who would you rather see in the starting lineup: Kosuke Fukudome (8 HRS, .269 BA and dropping) or Mike Fontenot (8 HRs, .291 BA and seemingly getting a clutch hit at every opportunity)?

Remember the guy Cubs fans ran out of town, Jacque Jones, hit .285 in each of his two seasons with the team. He might have been the team’s hottest hitter in the last half of 2007. Fans never gave him a chance after he got off to a slow start although the guy gave 100 percent on every play. (He’s available if Cubs want a left-handed bat off the bench.)

Back to the point. Fontenot deserves more starts than Fukudome right now. Maybe a few days off, used as a defensive replacement late in games, will help Fukudome get back on track.

Even Ronny Cedeno has been a better offensive option than Fukudome. I say Fukudome needs to play at home in the tough Wrigley right field, but use Fontenot/Cedeno on the road for their plate production,

This argument should make every Cubs fan grateful for Mark DeRosa.
