Flower power

OK, it’s probably a poor excuse for trying to make a joke, but Ted Lilly’s mowing over of Yadier Molina showed a lot of competitive fire and is the kind of play that can inspire a team. Of course it helps to pitch 8 innings of one run ball to get your team going.
Lilly has shown that he hates losing. His inside pitches serve to tell batters not to dig in on him. A couple of head-high throws shows that he’ll protect his teammates. Guys must like to play behind a pitcher who watches out for them.
Will the Cardinals retaliate tonight? Doesn’t matter. Looks like Lilly’s play has brought the Cubs out of the doldrums.
