What pressure?
If the 0-2 Cubs have anything going for them right now, it’s that all the pressure is now on the Dodgers to close the deal.
Lou Piniella and company are no longer expected to win this series. Historically speaking, they are already eliminated.
After finishing the regular season with a National League-best 55-26 home record, who ever thought that a change of scenery might actually do the Cubs some good? Â
Or, as a friend of mine put it: “If you’re not going to come home with two wins, don’t come home at all.”
OK, maybe some pressure.

…if you thought the Cubs winning game 1 was a sure thing.
Don’t lie. You did. I did. Everyone did.Â
All the worry and scepticism was reserved for Carlos Zambrano pitching in game 2.
And the four runs the Dodgers scored on James Loney’s grand slam wasn’t the most alarming number. Grand slams happen, just ask Jason Marquis. No one expected Dempster to walk seven batters in 4 2/3 innings. As the TBS commentators pointed out, Dempster allowed seven walks in the entire month of September.
In 33 regular season starts, the most walks Dempster issued in one game was six. But that was over six innings.

Gotta like this playoff matchup. If I’m the Cubs, I want no part of Manny Ramirez, but that’s easy, just intentionally walk him. But I also wanted no part of Johan Santana, and with the Mets home for the playoffs, that’s no longer a concern.

The Cubs are on a season-high five-game losing streak. It’s hard to be comfortable, I know.
But, the good news is (besides what fellow C-Notes blogger Tony Garcia mentioned in a previous post) that the Cubs are still four and a half games ahead of the Brewers, who have lost three games in a row to the Mets.
Even the ever-Mets-loathing Ron Santo has to be happy with that.
