Editor’s Note
Back in the old days — that’s less than a decade and before there were such things as blogs and interactive conversations with readers — editors used to respond to their newspaper readers with an “editor’s note.” Sometimes it clarified a point made in a letter to the editor. Sometimes it offered a correction. Sometimes it was just a simple explanation. An editor’s note was a handful of sentences; maybe a four or five paragraphs. It was always a personal link between the editor and the reader. Only difference between it and today’s blog is the immediacy and the platform. Welcome to Editor’s Note.

Thank you, Mayor; MetroCentre meetings open

May 11th, 2009 at 04:43pm Linda Grist Cunningham

Shortly after 5:30 this afternoon, Rockford Mayor Larry Morrissey called me to say the MetroCentre ad hoc committee meetings will be open to the press and public.

The conversation went just like this:

Mayor: Linda, it’s Mayor Morrissey. How are you doing?

Me: Mad.

Mayor: Let’s just cut to the chase. The meetings will be open.

Me: Thank you, Mayor.

And, I do.

You’ll find details and news coverage later at rrstar.com, and in the Register Star tomorrow. Here’s the link to the blog I posted today.

HI I am going to hold you to covering that story. I would like your reporters to ask the hard questions 1. was the city late in paying the fanchise fees to the chicago blackhawks? 2. did the chillers for the ice get replaced? I heard from a source they made cosmetic changes and it did not get fixed show me the actual receipt for the work done 3. did we turn a profit on the ice hogs or did we lose money? 4. who is on the committee what are their vested interests how did they get selected 5. is anybody from the newspaper actually looking at the fiscal report? 6. do we have a log of local businesses contacted for naming rights etc ?

Better late than never. To bad not many people knew this and were able to attend. And who said “timing was everything”????

    Linda,

Great job pushing the City on this. Too many decisions in this area are made behind closed doors and that’s why we’re facing the issues we are.

    Keep it up!
