The vote is now closed, as of 5 p.m. Friday, July 18.
And the winner is ….
Kimberly Nelson, WQRF-39 anchor and WTVO-17 reporter, and State Senator Dave Syverson, R-Rockford, are the winners of the just-for-fun “Dancing with the TV Divas” vote at the Ask Geo blog at http://blogs.e-rockford.com/askgeo/.
They captured 49 percent (23,528) of the 48,337 votes cast since the poll opened Tuesday. Voting stopped at 5 p.m. Friday.
Alice Barr, WIFR-23 reporter, and Rockford Ald. Doug Mark, R-3, finished second of the three couples, with 35 percent, or 16,918 votes. Laura Gibbs, WREX-13 reporter, and State Rep. Dave Winters, finished third, with 16 percent, or 7,891 votes.
The number of votes cast was a record or near-record for any rrstar.com poll.
While this vote was just for the heck of it, the real winners will be chosen by audience applause Saturday at the dance competition at the Bone Soiree fundraiser at the Burpee Museum of Natural History, 737 N. Main St., Rockford. Tickets at $90 are available in advance and at the door. For more information, call 815-965-3433 or go to burpee.org.
Check out below a rehearsal video of the three teams.

All I can say is Syverson’s dance experience goes way back. He could give John Travolta a run for his money back in the day!
Senator Syverson is a natural on the dance floor!
You go Peepers……(Kimberley)
We Love You,
Auntie Anna & Uncle Mike
Go Dave!! you have my votes. Great senator and dancer..
Dave…dude. Loosen up! Go Dave!
Congratulations to the Pols and the TV Divas for putting their best foot forward–literally! Also, a hearty congrats to Mr. Mark Bonne for coordinating the event. You know, we ought to see LGC cutting a rug with Eric Wilson. I bet Linda would give them all a run for their money!!
Finally, Congratulations, Dr. Brown! Your doing some amazing work at the Burpee Museum.
Dave\’s the best by far.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All six of these “dancers” have been working so tirelessly. They have all been a blast to work with. Voting, for me, is like having to pick my favorite child; impossible to do. Each one has their own “unique” qualities and talents. I don’t know how anyone will choose. Thanks gang for giving us at the Arthur Murray Studio the opportunity to dance with all of you.
FROM ALL OF US ON THE WEST COAST. WE ARE ALL VOTING FOR YOU.
LOVE YA,
WE HAVE CONTACTED ALL OUR FAMILY IN SWEDEN TO VOTE.
LOVE DAD
Hey Dave,

Alice Barr is smokin
Hi Al –
We ‘re watching you from the lake house — and loving it.
Mari thinks you’re the coolest — me too! Book Club and Henry House are all behind ya !
Cha cha cha and
lots of love, Mom and Mari
I love the idea – and I applaud the politicians who took the time to do this. I applaud all three. I think it reflects their overall dedication and involvement in our community. And from that – I will just say – may the best man win!
Kim Nelson and Dave Syverson won by receiving the loudest applause at the “Dancing with the TV Divas” Saturday night at the Bone Soiree fundraiser at the Burpee Museum of Natural History in Rockford.
All of the dancing couples, which also included Laura Gibbs and Dave Winters, and Alice Barr and Doug Mark, dressed to the Nth degree for their well-executed performances.
Emcee Mark Bonne and the three celebrity judges (including me), whose only role was to entertain the crowd, made pithy comments.
The ‘Dancing’ part of the soiree was a blast, and the crowd couldn’t have had more fun.
Another attaboy for the organizers and executors of the event: The French outdoor marketplace on the lawn, with food prepared by executive chef Philippe Forcioli of Cliffbreakers,
trumped the previous Burpee fundraisers that featured food samplings from various eateries.
