dear tractenberg & co.,

for years you have sent me press releases to promote products from flip flops to lip gloss. and for years i have dropped the envelopes, unopened, into the circular file. please save your time, energy and paper by no longer mailing me. i work for a local newspaper, not glamour. odds are, i’m not going to write anything about your clients.

i’d e-mail you this request, but you don’t list your web site or e-mail.

sincerely,

jennie pollock (who hasn’t even been the features editor for three years)

i’m dashing off a version of the letter above, in an effort to cut down on junk mail at work. i already saw my junk mail go down at home a while back when i signed up to opt out of credit card offers. (here are way more tips, but this guy says don’t call it junk mail!)

I find it quite funny that what you call “junk mail” takes up a lot less room in my recycle bin than the RRStar.

good one. but you choose to have the paper delivered and not the junk mail, right?
also, the trend in newspapers is to get smaller and smaller, so if we change again, that’ll help. :)

I’ve pared myself down to weekend only with the Star and have been seriously considering cancelling completely. And, no, I also choose to have the “junk mail” delivered too. I’ve never put in to request it to stop being delivered. I enjoy a lot of it and depend on the wed. grocery ads and other items. Hardworking people earn a living creating and disseminating that “product” just as you folks at the RRStar do. And, it not only cost me nothing, but I’ve yet to see a contest run to pick my favorite baby/pet/car at a dollar a vote so excess junk mail can be delivered to local schools and sit in the hall for days on end.
