i have enough things in my house that don’t get enough cleaning. apparently i can add my ol’ kenmore to the list, according to smellywasher.com.
i haven’t noticed a mold or fungus smell on my clothes, but if you do, this company says it has an eco-friendly way to get the grime out of the washer.

Wouldn’t the bleach used in washing your whites take care of that?

Bleach, vinegar and other clothes washer cleaner WILL kill fungus in your clothes washer. However, it won’t remove it from the outer, plastic tub - leaving a residue that is a base for more detergent to accumulate on and for fungus to grow on that accumulation. Smellywasher Cleaner removes the build-up of detergent, the fungus and all residue from the plastic and rubber parts in your washer. After the washer is cleaned just 1 Tablespoon used in place of detergent with a load of towels or clothing will kill the odor-causing fungus. Rewash with detergent to remove the dead fungus spores and everything smells like new!

But, won’t the occasional use of bleach keep the fungus at bay?
I’m not saying, every wash, but even a once a week use should do the trick, shouldn’t it?
Also, what’s a “smelly washer” smell like? I can’t seem to smell anything in my washer/dryer area but a slight odor of detergent, bleach, and fabric softener.
Now, the pile of dirties waiting to go in on a hot August day,,,, that’s another story.
