julie danielowski of byron sent in this picture, wearing the t-shirt she won in my contest. sorry for the delay, as i was on vacation. thanks!
on a related note, i saw “life. be green.” t-shirts at crimson ridge this weekend in rockford. they look kind of like this. the hooded sweatshirt is $42.50; the thermal long sleeved t-shirt is $35. the store special-ordered them.

i stumbled upon a feature about tim larson from skyward promotions in the rockford chamber of commerce’s newspaper, the voice.
to sum it up in a nutshell:
Larson always has been environmentally conscious but it was 3½ years ago when he decided to get his business more involved. He attended an out-of-town conference where one of the speakers spoke about future trends. “Every decade there is something that will highly impact people’s behavior,” the speaker said. Larson said that trend is going green. “People are becoming more conscious about it. It’s a generational thing.” …
Of the 700,000 products that Skyward offers, nearly 7,800 different products are considered eco-friendly.
i hope “green” is the next big thing! go, tim!

saturday, oct. 18, at 6 p.m., at kiki b’s in rockford, you can enjoy a three-course dinner featuring local produce, meats, cheeses and wine — and meet the farmers who give their products the tlc.
cost is $50. to register, go here or call 815-986-4357 (the university of illinois extension offers this, just like it offers other events i’ve mentioned). there may be a guest speaker, so more to come on that.
by the way, the extension is working on a local foods directory, which will have at least 65 entries. more to come on that, too!

julie danielowski of byron has won the “green is the new pink” t-shirt contest.
it’ll be a while before i get a photo with her: i have to mail her the shirt.
congrats, julie, and thanks to all the greenies who entered. hope some of you new readers are coming back, since the contest bumped my page views at least 300 or 400 more in august.

i was going to blog about business-related “green” stories we’ve written in the past few weeks when i woke up monday, but i thought, “well, working on labor day when i have off isn’t really the point.” (in my defense, i worked holidays my first six years here.)
so here you go, in case you missed them:
– a chinese company wants to harness the power of the sun in a probably project out at the airport. (thomas bona followed up with why that’s a hot idea.)
– local conservation groups are snapping up property in the challenged real estate market. so instead of seeing new condos, you’ll see green space. i loved this quote:
Tim Dimke, Rockford Park District executive director, said … good old-fashioned philanthropy is playing a part as well.
“I’d say the green movement by the aging baby boomer generation is an equal force,” Dimke said. “As they age and think about their legacy, many are taking land that could be developed and making sure it becomes parks and forest preserves. They want to leave something behind.”

i’ve received two dozen entries to win the “green is the new pink” t-shirt, with some excellent comments below. you can enter through wednesday. p.s. the cubs blog copied my idea.
Teresa K. Tomblinson: “I would love to win the go green pink t-shirt. Being a breast cancer survivor and a gardener, the go green/pink t-shirt is just perfect!”
Martha Krebeck: “If we all went green, even by 10%, imagine how much better off we would be. My husband and I have been recycling for over 25 years together.”
Nan Lindsay: “Your favorite color is orange. One of two Harlem Huskie colors.”
