Go Green
Rockford Woman editor Jennie Pollock knows that we’re not going to transform our lifestyles overnight, but she looks for ways big and mostly small to protect our planet. Read about her experiences (she’s tried giving up plastic and meat, for example) and share your possible solutions here.

The recycling you can’t just drop at the curb

I was just going to write about this, and Katie Backman beat me to it:

If you’re cleaning out the closets, remember that Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful will hold a clothing drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the following locations:

– Forest Hills Lodge, 9572 Forest Hills Road, Loves Park
– All seven Hilander locations:
2206 Barnes Blvd., Cherry Valley
4860 Hononegah Road, Roscoe
2601 N. Mulford Road, Rockford
1715 Rural St., Rockford
3710 N. Main St., Rockford
3134 11th St., Rockford
1730 S. Alpine Road, Rockford
This month’s metals drive was also a success.

…. (It) had an incredible turnout, said Lori Gummow, KNIB executive director.

More than 900 Rock River Valley residents dropped off several metal or electronic items, including 392 televisions, 377 computer monitors and 80 dehumidifiers.
