How to feel better RIGHT NOW!

1. Get outside! Research shows that even a 5-minute break out in the fresh air is a great pick-me-up, mentally and physically.

2. Take a color walk. Look up. Look at the colors! WOW!

3. When you walk, are looking down or looking up? Look up. Looking up is also proven to lift your mood. You won’t trip. And if you do, big deal. (I did trip and fall once in 4th grade and broke my arm. I’m pretty sure that won’t happen to you.)

4. Smoke a cigarette. KIDDING! Just wondering if you actually read the list or pretending to read. This lesson is two-fold. Have a laugh is the first lesson. A little humor goes a long way in the feel-good factor. The second lesson is pay attention. Be in the moment. When you are reading the paper, give it your attention. When you are taking a color walk, give it your attention. When you are doing anything, give it your attention. Be in the right here, right now with no thinking of the past or the future, and your mood will elevate.

5. Lose yourself. In your walk. In reading. In conversation. In cooking. In creating. Let yourself go and enjoy the task at hand. This is reinforcing what I just said in #4. Just checking to see if you were paying attention.

6. Go lux. What is the ultimate treat for you? If you crave gelato, get one. If you want a massage, get one. I recently had a pedicure and the gal gave me a swirly design and a little toe bling. I’ve never been happier to have toes.

7. Read positive stuff every day. Watch funny stuff. Hang out with good folks who choose to see the sunny side of life.

8. Wink at yourself in the mirror.

9. Go all day without complaining.

10. If you mess up, that’s okay. Don’t beat yourself up. Talk nicely to yourself. Go back to #8.
