The judge will see you now. Step into Springfield Bureau Chief Aaron Chambers’ chambers for an insider’s view on Illinois politics and government. No, Chambers isn’t a real judge. At least not in the sense of wearing a robe, wielding a gavel and issuing orders. But like a good judge, Chambers tells it like it is.

Maybe what students, faculty, the community and others need before making a final decision about Cole Hall is a chance to see for themselves (if they choose to) what condition it is in. Could they be permitted to see the interior of the building, or the lecture hall itself, under careful supervision, of course? Or could they be shown pictures of what it looks like now (I assume the blood, bullets, etc. have been cleaned up). Is there more physical damage in there than has been publicly admitted?

I agree with President Peters stating that NIU is a family. In that light, what family would choose to reside in a building where their siblings were cold bloodedly murdered?

Tear it down. The memory of Cole Hall will always be in our hearts. We do not need to stare at a building that will be a constant and horrifying memorial to the victims that were murdered there. Let us have a fresh and clean (building) memorial in which to teach our students, not one that is tainted with the bloodshed and horror. An establishment in which our family of students can enter without the "constant" reminder of what happened here on our campus.

Big John, I've been with you all the way, right up until y'all started talking about demolishing Cole. I think it's a bad idea for several reasons. Remodel it a little, improve it, rename it and let it be used into the future for it's intended purpose. I understand making a poor or emotional decision under stressful circumstances but that can be rectified. I hope Cole remains standing as we Huskies still are now and will continue to be in the future. Your favorite, cutest custodian, Bob

We are not honoring the slain students by tearing down colehall.
The building needs to remain and be used by students as a way of honoring those victims.
It is disgraceful to use this tragedy and people's heightened emotions as a way for the college president to get a new building on campus.
We can't hide from tragedy as that is part of life. By tearing down this building you would be sending the message not to deal with this tragedy, but to simply forget about it. (Out of sight-out of mind)
