One Rockfordian will be guaranteed an audition in front of American Idol producers by winning a “Rockford Star” contest Friday at the Rockford City Market, organizers announced in a news release today.
The television show has promised Rockford one slot at the auditions in Milwaukee, Wis. on July 21.
Supposedly, the first 30 people to register online on WQRF Fox 39′s website will have the “chance to perform and compete for that slot” during the Rockford City Market on Friday. American Idol is a Fox television network program.
But I looked around the website and couldn’t find the place where you are supposed to register.
According to the news release, former American Idol winner Jordyn Sparks won her audition spot at a similar contest in Arizona.
Schedule for Rockford Star at the Rockford City Market:
3 p.m. Check in
4 p.m. Contest starts on stage
5:30 p.m. Judges select top five contestants
6 p.m. Finalists perform again; Winner chosen audience applause.
6:30 p.m. Winner is interviewed live on WQRF Fox 39.
UPDATE: Rockford Register Star Copy Editor Megan Ryan did some digging and found where you register for the contest.

It was a scrolling banner ad so it would have been easy to miss
Can’t see it from my iPhone.
am writing to express my disappointment in the “Rockford Star” American Idol Contest held Friday night in the Rockford City Market. The winner was to be decided by audience applause. Anyone in the crowd or watching on TV would tell you it was obviously Stephanie Zibell. There are a lot of rumors circulating about one of the 3 judges having a relationship with the girlfriend of the young man who the judges chose to win over Stephanie in a “tie-breaker”. I hope that the rumors are not true. It seems to me that if there was a tie, they would give the edge to the Rockford Resident over a Naperville resident since the name of the contest is “Rockford Star”. I went from being very proud of Rockford and the organizers of the event to being very frustrated by the sloppy process of choosing a winner. If the purpose of the event was promotional…you missed the mark.
