Superintendent LaVonne Sheffield this afternoon declined to discuss her imminent departure from the Rockford School District.
With an organized effort to remove Sheffield under way for months and Rockford School Board members privately saying she was on her way out, a photographer and I were dispatched to Rockford School District headquarters on Madison Street in an attempt to speak with her.
Although an interview in the parking lot is less than an ideal situation, it may have been our only hope of speaking with her today. We unsuccessfully did our best to get a few comments.
Sheffield declined to talk as she appeared in the parking lot seemingly from thin air (there must be a tunnel under the Madison Street parking lot which at one time was a high school).
Sheffield deftly entered her green 1998 Cadillac responding “no” to my request to talk with her, backed her car out and drove off.
At least we can put to rest the oft repeated and false rumor that Sheffield has a driver who chauffeurs her places. I can confirm that she personally drove herself right out of the Madison Street lot like she has done it a hundred times before.

I admire your attempt to turn nothing into something here Jeff!
They pay you for this?
Yes, Trevor, I am paid to aggressively pursue news. In this case, I thought I would entertain you with a misadventure you otherwise would never know about. If you don’t like it, please don’t let the door hit you on your way off my blog.
Perhaps now the district, teachers and students can show exactly what they can do. There are no longer excuses to blame others for. Why not give an insider,Ms Hernandez
WSM, I think you are suggesting that the district select an insider to lead the Rockford School District.
That is definitely an option, especially on an interim basis as the district searches for or decides on a successor.
Their options are to hire a retired superintendent to lead the district on a limited basis like former Superintendent Linda Hernandez or even an outsider, look for someone in the administrative ranks with the superintendent endorsement or arrange for a combination of a leader and someone with the proper credential.
Lots of tough decisions in the next few weeks for the sitting board and the coming one.
jeff fyi i am saving your comment about the door hitting someone on the blog for the meeting with your publisher i wonder how that will go over with the boss? i remember you covered the policeman involved in the barmore shooting filing for disability it made the news one day only to be dropped and never more did we hear of his case or others cheap publicity hound
readingmike94,
Blogs traditionally have a certain level of snarkiness that I keep to a minimum. But in this case, you can see the commenter wanted to attack me rather than have any sort of reasonable discussion, so I obliged.
Maybe you want to cut this one out too: Your comment offers little worth discussing either. You attempt to bring up something that has nothing to do with this post regarding the Mark Anthony Barmore shooting, but I don’t understand what point you are making with it and I don’t remember writing a story about any police officer filing for disability.
