Brown’s illness had prevented him from attending Park District Board meetings since December. But, determined to stay involved with the district, Brown attended meetings via teleconference call since Feb. 8.

“Chuck was an outstanding Commissioner and a community leader.  He dedicated his life to serving people, and I was pleased to serve with him on the Park Board,” Park District Commissioner Nate Martin said in a statement.

Brown was director of communications and new media at Rockford College from 2008 until his illness.

A memorial of celebration to honor Brown’s life will be held at Rockford Country Club on Tuesday, May 24, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with a reflection program held at 6:00.

Brown requested that memorials be directed to the Chuck and Becky Brown Memorial Bridge Fund at the Rockford Park District Foundation, 401 S. Main Street, Rockford, IL 61101.  The fund was established in August 2010 to light the Auburn Street Bridge.

I had the opportunity to work with Chuck while he finished his career at Northcentral Technical College in Wausau, WI. I succeeded Chuck in the role of marketing director for a brief time and would like to share how respected he was in his career field in this region. Those of us still at NTC who remember working with him are of great sadness for him and his family.
