The first official day of fall is still five days away, but the Rockford Park District is already thinking about winter snow sculpting.
The Park District announced today it’s ready to hear from artists interested in participating in the 26th Annual Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition scheduled for Jan. 18-21 at Sinnissippi Park, 1401 N. Second Street, Rockford.
Teams from around the state will compete in Rockford for the right to represent Illinois in the U.S. Nationals Snow Sculpting Competition. Each sculpting team must consist of no more than three members, age 18 or older, who are current Illinois residents; amateurs and professionals are eligible.
High school sculpting teams are also wanted to compete in their own division in conjunction with the state event.
Applications for the adult and high school divisions are available to download HERE.
The deadline to submit entry forms and sketches of proposed sculptures is 5 p.m. Oct. 11 for high school teams and 5 p.m. Nov. 11 for adult teams.
Entries can be delivered to either Park District customer service location downtown at Webbs Norman Center, 401 S. Main St., Rockford, or Carlson Ice Arena, 4150 N. Perryville Rd., Loves Park.
There is no entry fee to participate. Notification of acceptance status will be given by Nov. 14 for adult teams, and by Oct. 12 for high school teams.
