A café that provides vocational training the men and women of the Rockford Rescue Mission’s Life Recovery Program has opened inside Nicholas Conservatory.
It is the second location for Restoration Café, the Rescue Mission’s soup, sandwich and coffee shop. The original Restoration Cafe, 625 W. State St., has been open since June 2009.
“The original location has been open since June 2009 and continually gets great reviews from our patrons. The opportunity to be part of this great new addition in our community is very exciting for us,” said Sherry Pitney, executive director of the Rescue Mission.
The café provides the men and women in desperate circumstances with hands on training in food service and preparation, food sanitation, customer service and other skills needed to get a job in the food service industry.
Restoration Café inside the Nicholas Conservatory will be open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays.
Menu items include coffee, tea, soft drinks, muffins, yogurt parfaits, sandwiches, salads, soups and cookies. The 625 West State location is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
UPDATE: You have to pay the admission fee to Nicholas Conservatory in order to eat at the cafe. The cafe is for guests of the conservatory. Admission costs $6 for Winnebago County and Rockford Park District residents.

Do you know if you have to pay the admission fee for the conservatory to eat @ Restoration Cafe?
Tracy,
The Restoration Cafe at Nicholas Conservatory is for the guests. You have to pay the admission fee in order to eat there.
Thanks for the question.
