This week, YWCA’s across the country are Standing Against Racism with a unified voice and are appreciative of the many individuals, businesses and organizations standing with them. Rock Valley College is proudly leading the Rockford stand against racism.
You may be of the opinion that racism is a thing of the past, ending with the civil rights battles and you may believe we’re a much more progressive and sophisticated culture now. If your beliefs fall into this pattern, chances are pretty good that your skin is white and you’re not Asian, Latino, Black or Native American.

Sometimes men say or do something that makes me wonder if their wives now have them sleeping in the garage. I mean, how could you let the sexist pig sleep in the same room with you? According to Wisconsin Senator Glenn Grothman, it’s a woman’s fault that she doesn’t earn the same salary a man earns because her priorities just aren’t in the right place. And besides, money isn’t as important to women as it is to men.
Depending on where you get your news about national stories, like the murder of Trayvon Martin, the story you’re hearing will have a bias or a slant. Evidently, story also changes depending on the platform. The Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism reports:

The old Black Panther Party members are quick to disassociate themselves with this new “political”/”self defense”/vigilante group calling themselves the New Black Panther Party. You’ve probably heard of this new group recently as they’ve placed a bounty on the head of George Zimmerman, the man accused of shooting Trayvon Martin.

There’s nothing more frightening than a 17 year old in a hoodie carrying Skittles and a bottle of tea – or at least that’s what an over zealous, self appointed neighborhood watch leader would lead people to believe after he shot Trayvon Martin to death.
