Guess what? 95% of college graduates will return home this spring. Most of them will attain minimum wage on top of tens of thousands of dollars of debt. The other three quarters, high school graduates, will attain minimum wage. If these bees work 20 hours every day of the year, give up electricity and indoor plumbing, and don’t eat, then they might be able to purchase health insurance. Why are the people who taught them compensated so well? How, exactly, is there going to be a workforce that earns enough to pay for the debt that these wages and benefits will leave to the commonwealth? What, exactly, does a ‘Masters’ in Ed. contribute to the formative experience that teaching school doesn’t already instill and teach?
