Manufacturing 2.0
Rock River Valley manufacturing experts discuss the many facets of manufacturing: technology, education, training, events, people and any other aspects of this important segment of our economy. They’ll use this blog to get the word out and solicit feedback on local and global manufacturing. They hope to better engage our employers, employees and our future work force and increase their understanding of manufacturing.

Manufacturing Camp

July 7th, 2008 at 07:17am Teresa Beach-Shelow

WOTM is getting set to have Manufacturing Camp for boys and girls going into 8th, 9th and 10th grade, and the last week of July (July 28-Aug 1). It’s the 6th year at the Abilities Center Techworks on 15th Avenue. Historically, Women of Today’s Manufacturing and the Abilities Center have partnered to provide this Camp, where students learn about Manufacturing.  They learn about measuring instruments and how to use them, and then they plan their take home project using Cad Cam. Once they have the blue prints they use manual and automated mills and lathes to finish their own project. Before they go home each day there is a lunch and learn time. Winnovation will come to explain their competitive robotics team; leaders in manufacturing will share what they do and what type of education is needed to do that. On Friday a limo pulls up and the students go on tours of local manufactures. Education, exposure, hands on experiences makes this one of the best Camps in the Rock River Valley each summer. Cost is $10.  Contact information:www.wotm-rockford.com and Barb Bishop 815-389-2300
