Brooks article worth a look

David Brooks, who writes for the New York Times, wrote an eloquent piece about the complexities of education and technological change. To paraphrase would be an injustice. This link will bring you to the article.

Of special note is his attention to a report from James Heckman of the University of Chicago. Professor Heckman’s research shows the skills gap many companies face may have less to do with I.Q. and more to do with one’s home environment.

    Interesting article and I agree with the “home environment” issue.
    What I see is that society is expecting the school system to take care of the youth.
    My question…where are the parents in all this, where is their responsibility.
    It’s not fair to educators like you to try to instill good practices in the students if the home environment isn’t doing it’s job.
    It has to start at home.
