Manufacturing 2.0
Rock River Valley manufacturing experts discuss the many facets of manufacturing: technology, education, training, events, people and any other aspects of this important segment of our economy. They’ll use this blog to get the word out and solicit feedback on local and global manufacturing. They hope to better engage our employers, employees and our future work force and increase their understanding of manufacturing.

Is it True?

September 30th, 2008 at 01:38pm Bob Trojan

Manufacturers, like consumers, will pay the price for the circus that is going on in Washington.

Is it true…95 Democrats voted NO including several from Barney Frank’s own Finance Committee and …..the Speaker told some of her fellow Demos…”you can vote NO…..?

So if credit tightens for us, where is the responsibility of the ruling party?  When do we recognize the stunts that they are pulling?

In the manufacturing world, people get fired for this kind of game playing!

    The failure of this bailout plan is actually a good thing, provided nothing equally harmful replaces it. The only way out of the crisis is for bad debt to be written off and homes to drop in price back to values that allow average people to afford them without relying on exotic mortgage products. The bail-outs are just attempts to reflate the bubble. The danger is that printing $700 billion will stoke inflation to an even greater extent than we had in the 1970s. That would not be a good thing. It’s no surprise that the dollar has gone up since the bailout failed.
    If the government wants to do something, suspending the mark to market rule could relieve some of the pressure on financial firms as the bad assets are written off. But to print hundreds of billions of dollars and throw them at the problem will only make matters worse.

    Last time I looked, the Republicans have been the “ruling party” for six out of the last eight years in Congress and have held the White House for all eight. In that time period, they’ve done extensive damage with their coddling of Wall Street and push toward deregulation. Now, McCain tries to swoop in and fix the damage that his party helped create and you want to blame the Democrats for the bill failing. It was the conservative Repubs who killed it, not Nancy Pelosi. Maybe it’s time for another party to have a chance as the “ruling party.” Certainly can’t get any worse than it is right now.

    mokey;
    I guess you missed this story from 2003…Bush wanted to make changes but Frank said…”there is no problem”.

    Seems to me that the demos are responsible…and if you go back further, you’ll see that Clinton set this all in motion…

    So, what’s your point? That the ranking Democrat held up the plan, despite the fact that Congress and the WH were both controlled by Republicans?

    Ahhh, yes, blame Clinton, and then conveniently ignore the last eight years of the Bush disaster. Good logic.

    mokey; I think there is plenty of blame to go around. So let’s fix it and get on with making things.
