The Blog Blog

There was a time not that long ago when no one knew what a blog was. If you asked for an explanation, you’d get about as many different answers as the people you asked. These days, anyone can have a blog - some blog for their friends, some blog for their interests, and others blog for their business.
Now, while posting on the Marketing Sense blog, we will attempt to explain a question which comes up every now then…why blog? Isn’t the Internet big enough already? There’s an estimated 30 billion websites out there (that’s about five sites for every person on the planet – although less than a quarter of the people on the planet have used the Internet). The Web is getting bigger every day.
So why should you blog?
It’s simple: exposure.
Marketing is all about building recognition in the eyes of your target market (also known as branding).
Blogging is another place where people can go to find out about you. If your blog and your websites link to each other, that will have an impact on your search engine rankings – especially if the content on both sites is updated frequently.
What’s just as important is to provide quality information. Outsiders may come to rely on your expertise and when a time comes to pay for the services you offer, who do you think they’ll think of first?
It does take time to build a successful blog but in the long term, it could pay off. At worst, you’ll have a portfolio of your expertise that tells your prospective clients you’re the right person for the job.
