When film critic Will Pfeifer isn’t watching movies, he’s reading about movies, talking about movies, thinking about movies or dreaming about movies. Now he shares that unhealthy obsession with you. From Hollywood hits to Japanese obscurities, from Oscar night to the summer season, he’s got movies on the brain — and on this blog.

I'm dying to see it. In a way, it's more exciting to see a more you might love or hate than one you know you'll love. (Though, given my track record with PTA, I think I'll love it.) You should see HARD EIGHT -- it's a low-key drama with plenty of trademark PTA moments and great performances from John C. Reilly, Philip Baker Hall, Sam Jackson and (in a small role) Philip Seymour Hoffman. Actually, Gwyneth Paltrow's not too bad either.

Yeah and it is at the five buck club. I am really looking forward to seeing it again. But it is a movie that is definitely not for everyone, many people will probably not like it or find it boring. I would agree with a lot of the the parallels to Daniel Plainview (Daniel Day Lewis) and Charles Foster Kane that I have read about. I think it is P.T. Anderson's best film yet. Although i have not seen Hard Eight, i thought it wa better than Boogie Nights and Punch Drunk Love, I did not really care for Magnolia. I hope you enjoy it, and even if you don't, there is no way you will not enjoy Daniel Day Lewis' performance in it. A really fantastic film visually with many modern day comparisons with religion, greed, and the whole oil fiasco we are experiencing now.
