When film critic Will Pfeifer isn’t watching movies, he’s reading about movies, talking about movies, thinking about movies or dreaming about movies. Now he shares that unhealthy obsession with you. From Hollywood hits to Japanese obscurities, from Oscar night to the summer season, he’s got movies on the brain — and on this blog.

Hokum -- I completely agree with you on Daniel Day Lewis. Dano was great, too -- I'm not sure why he wasn't nominated. Even the kid who played Plainview's son, H.W., was really fine. His quiet performance was just the right counterpart to Day-Lewis.

Bardem was nominated, and I wouldn't be surprised if he wins. He was amazing, and he's the one everyone seems to be talking about.

Will,
Our family just got back from viewing "Blood".
If Daniel Day Lewis doesn't get the Oscar for his performance the fix is in. There's a reason he's the worlds best living film actor.
Of course Paul Dano was no slouch in the film either. Although I've only seen Bardem, I think he should have been on the list for "Best Supporting Actor". But, so should have Cate Blanchette.

Brew - you're right. The man can be multifaceted. In fact, there is a lot of cross over between Hollywood and poltiics. Like, last night at the Democratic debate. CNN stopped Jason Alexander and asked him about his views on the election. Man, I am so glad I heard that. Will, what's Jason up to today? And, who you think he'll vote for? He wouldn't say last night.

I don't know if we should put him in a box, but I agree, that's a stretch for him.

Brew, what you think about the Movie Man hitting up Applesauce with some political commentary. Don't you think he's a little out of his element?

I've only seen the prviews, but what I watched looked like he turns in an acting masterpiece. I can't wait to see it.

Any movie recommended by the Movie Man is a movie I want to see. They don't pay you enough, Movie Man. You are the king, brother. The King.

Will, I saw your comments over at Applesauce Blog. You thinking of leaving us movie lovers for the bright lights of politics?

If they could somehow make a new version of MAGNUM P.I, with Daniel Day-Lewis playing the same character as he does in THERE WILL BE BLOOD, I'm confident it would be the greatest TV show ever.
