You don’t have much time left …

… to enter this year’s Beat the Movie Man contest. The deadline is 5 p.m. today — that’s Monday, Feb. 18 — so if you want to brag about picking more Oscar winners than me, you’d better hurry up.
The link to the contest is here. I’ll reveal my picks on Sunday, the day of the Oscars. Good luck, movie fans!
While we’re talking Oscars, here’s a trivia question: What’s unusual about Roderick Jaynes, who is nominated in the Best Film Editing category for his work on “No Country for Old Men”? No fair looking it up on the Internet.

Since I know the answer, here’s another clue:
He has something in common with the brother of Charlie Kaufmann who was nominated for an Oscar for Adaptation.

Very good, Odessa. Very good!

He doesn’t exist, he is fictional.

Bingo. He’s a “pen name” for the Coen Brothers themselves.

It seems the latest news on the emergence of Blu-Ray as the winner of the format wars makes this years 1st prize (HD-DVD Player) a bit of a White Elephant.

haha, well there are quite a few HD-DVD titles out there and they will probably get pretty cheap…and the player can still upconvert regular DVD titles. So it’s not a total loss.

I cannot support a contest where the prize is obsolete. Very disappointing, Register Star.

HA! Good one Boogie. First prize, HD-DVD. Second prize: Betamax. Third: Model-T. Movie Man, don’t they ask you? I am sure your house is all Blue Ray.

I’ll admit the HD-DVD player isn’t the greatest prize in the world, but I had nothing to do with that. Plus, it still will make your normal DVDs look better than ever, and it’s FREE if you win. And those HD-DVDs should be really, really inexpensive in the coming months.
Boogie Town, Lend: Did you even enter the contest?

Will,
I’m sure if it was up to you the first prize would be a healthy stack of Criterions!

Movie Man - No, I’m horrible at contests and I wouldn’t have the slightest idea, as el Dizzle suggest, how to “upconvert” my DVDs.
Do you have HD or Blue Ray?

Actually, I just have a normal DVD recorder/player I’ve had for a few years now. I’ll probably get a Blu Ray once the prices drop a bit. As for the “upconvert,” I’m pretty sure it does it automatically.
