Trailer for QUANTUM OF SOLACE debuts

June 30th, 2008 at 03:48pm Will Pfeifer

Here’s the trailer for the new James Bond movie, QUANTUM OF SOLACE.

It looks good, definitely follows in the footsteps of the last one, and has a certain BOURNE vibe, with M (Judi Densch) pursuing Bond (Daniel Craig), who’s apparently gone rogue. Nice to see Jeffrey Wright back as CIA agent Felix Leiter, too. It’ll be out Nov. 7.

And, in case you’ve forgotten how far we’ve come, here’s the original trailer for 1978’s MOONRAKER, one of the goofiest films in Bond history…

It seems like the world has been waiting forever for this full trailer. However it looks like it was well worth the wait. I’m sold and my calendar is marked. I really think Forster was a smart choice for Director.

However, I still say the best Bond film ever was On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Great direction, Great song, Probably the best Bond script ever filmed and, yes naysayers, a really good Bond.

I’m not saying Lazenby was the best Bond, but he’s not the worst either. That honor would have to go to Moore or Dalton. Craig has done only one film but he is already one of the best. Maybe even the best? We’ll have to wait and see.

Dalton was a TERRIFIC Bond! He just got stuck with the worst scripts after all the Ian Fleming novels were already taken. I think Daniel Craig\\\’s dark portrayal resembles Dalton\\\’s a lot.I recall reading that the actor that played \\"Q\\" said that Dalton\\\’s version was the closest to the novel\\\’s. Too bad they didn\\\’t remake all of the lousy ones by Roger Moore with Dalton. Here\\\’s hoping they\\\’ll do it with Craig.

Dalton did get stuck with two pretty lousy films (although one of my favorite Bond opening pre-title scenes is the one on Gibraltar in “The Living Daylights”.)

Licence to Kill is probably the worst Bond film in my honest opinion. Not just a bad script, but it had such lousy direction. It plays like a slow, lame made-for-TV movie. At least the worst of the over-the-top Moore films (like Moonraker)were big and fun to watch.

Personally I don’t think Dalton or Moore or any of the Bonds are that bad but those two would be towards the bottom of my list if I had to rank ‘em.

I have to say, campy special effects did a lot of damage to the Roger Moore-era James Bond Movies. The new, amazing special effects certainly help.

Casino Royale blew my (admittedly low) expectations away, after some of the “sci-fi” direction the final Pierce Brosnan roles took. It was basic, down and dirty, tough-guy action, and I liked that. Daniel Craig portrays a James Bond who’s # 1 objective is mission completion, no matter how he does it. It looks like the new franchise is leaning a little bit closer to current events, and trying to create more realistic scenarios.

Now, though, after Casino Royale, I have really high expectations for Quantum of Solace. The trailer looks great. I hope the movie follows suit. They are also creating a video game to accompany the movie wherein you play the role of 007 through both the Casino Royale script, and the Quantum of Solace script. And, they are utilizing the same graphics/physics engine that was used for Call of Duty 4 (for any video gamers out there). We’ll see how good both are……….
