A medal-worthy performance

2 comments August 11th, 2008

This most impressive thing I saw this weekend wasn’t a movie, it was the open ceremonies of the Olympics from Beijing. From the dancers painting the scroll to the people making the landscape of the Great Wall shift and pulsate (best touch –just when it seemed too impersonal and massive, they doffed their costumes and waved) to Lin Hao, the little boy accompanying Yao Ming at the head of the Chinese athletes, it was a visual feast. And it ending on an amazing note, with gold medal gymnast Li Ning was hoisted to the top of the stadium and “ran” around the periment.

Of course, it shouldn’t be surprising the ceremony was so visually striking. The man behind it was director Zhang Yimou, who is known around the world for directing movies like this…
