Sofia Coppola? Really?

I just took one of those dopey online personality tests, “The Director Who Films Your Life,” and according to them, Sofia Coppola would be the perfect choice to bring my life story to the big screen.
Hmm. I did like LOST IN TRANSLATION and think THE VIRGIN SUICIDES is a forgotten gem. Haven’t seen MARIE ANTIONETTE yet, but I suppose I will one of these days, when it’s on HBO and there’s nothing else on. She’s a talented director, no doubt about it, but I don’t know if I see her filming my — admittedly pretty mundane — life story.
My pick? Well, Kubrick is dead, so he’s out, though I’d love to see my school years framed in that rigid style of THE SHINING or FULL METAL JACKET, all perfectly staged compositions and tracking shots. Scorsese would be just right for handling the narration — ala GOODFELLAS, maybe my wife could chime in partway through — and he’d be great at picking the music. (Just not “Gimme Shelter” again, Marty — please!) Others I’d like to see take a crack would be Billy Wilder (he’s dead, though), David Fincher (think of the detail he’d bring to my 1970s childhood) and even John Hughes (I did go to high school in the era of SIXTEEN CANDLES and THE BREAKFAST CLUB, after all.)
But Sofia Coppola? I’m going to have to think that one over.
Take the test yourself by clicking here, then share your results in the comments section. I’m dying to see if anyone gets Takashi Miike, Dario Argento or Guy Maddin. Now those are biopics I’d like to see!

Kevin Smith. Sounds about right.

OK, now I KNOW this test is completely off the mark. I got Sofia Coppola as well. I, however, HATED Lost in Translation, found Virgin Suicides fairly lame, and will never even bother seeing Marie Antoinette (or any future films she makes).
Sometimes these quizzes are fun, but when they are SO far off, it just seems random and pointless.
Me? I could see John Hughes (back when he was funny), Kevin Smith, or even Peter Berg. I’d love to see Joss Whedon’s take on my life, and just for kicks maybe a crazy Baz Luhrmann musical version.

OK, I’m suspicious: I got Sophia Coppola, too. Actually, thought, I’ve loved all of her films. The breakdown was interesting: 61 % action romance, 23 % comedy, 23 % complex plot, $28,000,000 budget. Was yours the same? If I took the quiz under another name, would it still end up the same?

I actually took the quiz twice — once yesterday and once today — and got her both times. Two friends of mine at work got David Lynch and Ed Wood Jr., both of whom I’d love to see direct the movie of my life. In Ed’s case, it would be a little tough because he died decades ago, but at least we know the budget would be reasonable.
The more I think of it, the more I like Ed Wood directing my biopic!

I don’t know why the story of my life would inspire someone to give Ed Wood 22 million dollars, but I guess there must be something

Okay, I got Nicolas Coppola. This can’t be right.
178%action, 4% comedy, -50 on complex plot. $120,000,000 million budget? Must be for all the hairpieces.

I also got Sofia Coppola.

Sofia Coppola for me as well. My life hasn’t been that exciting. I guess she’s not perceived to make exciting movies.
