What do you you do when your right-wing comedy bombs at the box office?
October 7th, 2008 at 10:59am Will Pfeifer
Simple! You claim it’s all part of a left-wing conspiracy!
From the official site: “If you have noticed other irregularities with the theatres in your area please let us know in the comment section below. For instance, Rated R film rating (when in fact we are rated PG-13), posters not being up, not being listed on the marquee, image or focus problems, sound issues, etc.”
Rest easy, America. As the site says (in bold type, no less), “We are investigating.”
Did anyone actually see AN AMERICAN CAROL? Politics aside, it just looked awful. Like some distant sequel in the SCARY MOVIE franchise that’s even worse than the sequels we’ve already seen.
If you saw it — and especially if it’s actually funny — please let us know in the comments

Why is it that Kelsey Grammer does such good TV but picks such crap for his film career?

While I am positive this is just their own unfounded defensive pouting at the flop of their film, I will say this:
IF they had popular stars and the movie actually looked funny, MAYBE they could get a few people to believe this conspiracy theory. But when your headliner is Chris Farley’s less talented brother, and it features Kelsey Grammer, David Alan Grier, Kevin Sorbo, Gary Coleman, and Trace Adkins… let’s be honest: it didn’t need a conspiracy to be a POS that no one would want to see.

I’ll pass on seeing this one. And you know, Mike Farley really is funny. He’s had parts in other shows, films, etc.
This just isn’t the right vehicle for him, though.
This looks like a bad, unfunny movie to me.
Right now, SNL is the funniest political satire going, in my opinion………….

KEVIN Farley… and yes, he’s been amusing in some things. But he’s not ready to carry a film, and this certainly isn’t the one to start with.

I think you could definitely do a parody on Michael Moore and have it be funny. This just isn’t it.

Agreed! Kevin Farley has been funny (he was great on CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM last season as an exterminator who went on an awkward “date” with Larry), and it’s gotta be tough to be an actor and be Chris Farley’s brother, but this movie’s not going to boost his career. And Kelsey Grammer was on TWO of the all-time great sitcoms, but his movie choices haven’t been stellar. There is a satire to be made of Michael Moore, but you’re right, LD — this ain’t it. The bits spoofing him in TEAM AMERICA (a parody with a rightward slant that actually was funny) were better.

Michael Moore doesn’t need a parody. He’s a walking parody. He’s the entertainment. His messages get lost in the light of his ridiculous behavior.

echo4charlie — I like Moore, but I agree he has a certain tendency toward self parody. I wouldn’t mind seeing a sharp, smart satire of him — heck, I wouldn’t mind seeing a sharp, smart satire of anybody — but by all indications, this ain’t it.

I like the idea they seem to be intimating there, that “sound and focus problems” may be some kind of conspiracy to keep the movie down.
theaters screw up good movies. why wouldn’t they also screw up bad movies?
