Movie Man
When film critic Will Pfeifer isn’t watching movies, he’s reading about movies, talking about movies, thinking about movies or dreaming about movies. Now he shares that unhealthy obsession with you. From Hollywood hits to Japanese obscurities, from Oscar night to the summer season, he’s got movies on the brain — and on this blog.

Really, America? Really?

BEVERLY HILLS CHIHUAHUA is the No. 1 movie for the second week in a row? Really?

Keep in mind that this is a movie with such a low opinion of its audience that the poster includes a pronunciation key for the word “chihuahua.”

Looks like people are craving a family film. It doesn’t make this good (it actually looks terrible), but, it’s geared for families………

That’s a good point, Swede. And I have to admit, I haven’t seen it, so I really can’t say if it’s good or bad….

But judging by those ads .,.. and the concept … and the awful title…yikes!

From the Trib a few days ago:

“I might be overstating things, but if we ever needed a movie like ‘Beverly Hills Chihuahua,’ it’s right now,” Paul Dergarabedian, president of Medida By Numbers, told the Los Angeles Times. “How can you think about the mortgage crisis when you’re sitting in that movie?”

Seriously, this is another sign the world has gone mad. American Idol gets more votes than the race for president, NFL games draw larger audiences than the presidential debate and a chihuahua becomes the top movie in the nation.

I hate when people make the American Idol vs President comparison. Not only can people of any age vote for AI (and I’m fairly sure the majority of them are under 18), but you can also vote as many times as you want - I’ve known people who have voted 100 times in a night. If people could do that for presidential elections, the numbers would DWARF Idol.

…and yeah, NFL games are way more exciting than debates. Besides, 80% of people already know who they’re voting for and no debate will chang their minds.
