Friday Morning Videos: CABIN BOY

And now, for no reason other that it always cracks me up, here’s David Letterman’s scene from the movie CABIN BOY, where he gets to interact with his old LATE NIGHT buddy, Chris Elliot. Enjoy!

Incidentally, can anyone name — without looking it up on the all-knowing Internet — the other movie Letterman was in? To give you a few hints, it was a 1990s comedy, Letterman didn’t actually “appear” on camera and he performed under another name.Â

As a high schooler, I remember repeating the “hey kid, you wanna buy a monkey line” ad nauseum.
Yes I’m a dork.

I believe the other movie you are referring to is BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD DO AMERICA. Letterman’s cameo is pretty damned amusing.

Well played, Mack. He was a big B&B fan, and lent his voice to the film. He was billed in the credits as Earl Hofert, which is apparently his uncle’s name.

Chris Elliot has always made me laugh. I never missed one episode of “Get A Life”.

Reminds me of when Dave hosted the Oscars (which I thought he did a terrific job at). He played the scene where he asks Chris to buy the monkey, but then played “audition scenes’ of other actors that supposedly tried out for the part. I remember Paul Newman being one of them. Hilarious stuff.

Hey John,
That great Oscars bit is on YouTube here.
(The decade+ VHS grade quality tape it was encoded from is not great however…)

for some reason I always have a vivid recollection of Newman on Dave’s very first episode of The Late Show on CBS:
“Where the hell are the singing cats?!”
