Movie Man
When film critic Will Pfeifer isn’t watching movies, he’s reading about movies, talking about movies, thinking about movies or dreaming about movies. Now he shares that unhealthy obsession with you. From Hollywood hits to Japanese obscurities, from Oscar night to the summer season, he’s got movies on the brain — and on this blog.

Video review: HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY

Here’s a link to my video review of Guillermo del Toro’s HELLBOY II,  a comic book-based movie that I really liked. If you’re looking for something a little different with some comedy, action, monsters and offbeat characters, I think this will fit the bill nicely. (I’d post the actual video, but we’ve got bugs on the blogs that lock things up when there’s a video on the site. Don’t worry, we’re working on it!)

And here’s the print version. More words, fewer images.

Counting down the year in movies

5 comments December 8th, 2008

As the year winds down, the big city movie critics (who’ve seen everything that’s going to be released in 2008) are starting to reveal their Top lists for the past year. Here’s a link to Roger Ebert’s, and here’s one to David Edelstein’s.

Biggest surprises? Ebert picks not only the expected THE DARK KNIGHT but also the less-expected IRON MAN for his top 20 list (he says it was too good a year to pick just 10.) Edelstein names the just-released CADILLAC RECORDS in his No. 4 spot, and puts KIT KITTREDGE: AN AMERICAN GIRL in the No. 6 spot. That’s pretty odd, no?

Both critics, incidentally, give high praise to WALL-E. I’m guessing that’s going to end up on a lot of Top 10 lists.
