This footage apparently debuted earlier this year at the San Diego Comicon, but it’s just arriving on the Internet now.  Some of these scenes were visible in the trailer, but many — including the ominous smile the Comedian gives Carla Gugino after the group photo has been snapped — were not. I like the look of the film, though I sure hope most of the slo-mo is removed for the actual movie (and I think it will be).
Any thoughts? I’m especially eager to hear from someone who has no knowledge of the comic book. Does this make you intrigued, or just confused?

Longtime TIME critic Richard Corliss lists his Top 10 movies for 2008 here.
WALL-E tops the list, with SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK (Charlie Kaufman’s film that I’m dying to see), Guy Maddin’s MY WINNIPEG, MILK (not in Rockford yet), THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON (not anywhere yet) and SPEED RACER (really?) further down on the list.

There’s no THE DARK KNIGHT, which is sort of surprising (though IRON MAN made it), but I’m just happy to see Guy Maddin get the No. 3 spot. He’s a director I’ve loved ever since I first saw his TALES OF THE GIMLI HOSPITAL and CAREFUL back in 2000 on pair of obscure DVDs. MY WINNIPEG isn’t on DVD yet (though it got a brief run on IFC’s In Demand channel), but BRAND UPON THE BRAIN did arrive on a swell Criterion disc this year. Read my review here, then Netflix BRAND. It’s like no other movie you’ve ever seen.

The gang over at SpoutBlog has listed what they consider the 10 Most Romantic Films of the Past 10 Years, and I have to give them points for including a few non-obvious choices.

Sure, THE NOTEBOOK is there (which, if you ask me, belongs on a list of the 10 Worst Films of the Past 10 Years), but they also included WALL-E, BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, COLD MOUNTAIN (continuing the “Mountain” theme, apparently) and two of my own faves, PUNCH DRUNK LOVE and ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND. I’ve mentioned before how much I love ETERNAL SUNSHINE (definitely one of the best movies of the last 10 years and also one of the best relationship movies of all time), and it’s nice to see someone remember Paul Thomas Anderson’s wild, brilliant PUNCH DRUNK LOVE, one of the few movies that shows how falling in love is not unlike going insane. Also, it’s Adam Sandler’s best movie.
By a long, long shot.
