TCM Remembers

2 comments December 15th, 2008

Every year around this time, Turner Classic Movies compiles a short film remembering all the moviemakers who died during the past 12 months. Here’s the 2008 version.

TCM’s memoriam montage always tops the one the Academy runs during Oscar night. While the Academy has to deal with a limited running time and varied applause from the live audience, Turner has no such limitations and can make room for such memorable people as Vampira (from PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE) and Ben Chapman (from THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON.) It’s more than just a tribute to the lives lost, it’s a tribute to the strange and wonderful power of movies.

Is this a marketing campaign, or just spoilers?

MARLEY AND ME opens Christmas day, but as an early “gift” some of the posters and billboards have been defaced to reveal a major plot point in the movie. Over at Cinematical, writer Erik Davis thinks it’s all part of an elaborate marketing campaign. If you don’t mind plot spoilers, click this link and judge for yourself.

Otherwise, don’t click. Seriously.
