A pile of gifts for local movie fans

If you’re looking for a movie to catch after the Christmas presents are opened and the meal has been digested, then you’re in luck. Six major movies are opening in Rockford theaters on Dec. 25. I can’t promise they’re all good, but I can promise they’re all new:
THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON
MARLEY AND ME
DOUBT (not brand-new, but new to us),
THE SPIRIT,
BEDTIME STORIES
and VALKYRIE.
If you see any (or all) of these movies, why not swing by this blog and let us know what you thought. It’s not often we get such a bounty of cinema treats here in the Forest City. (SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE is still here too, if you’ve been wanting to check that out.)

While I’m curious to see BUTTON (and may see it this weekend), I’m not eager to see anything new until THE WRESTLER gets here in MD/DE (sometime in January).
As for THE SPIRIT, I’m glad it’s finally out, so we can finally stop talking about it, both the Frank supporters and Frank detractors.

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE should take the Oscar. I know it won’t
’cause it doesn’t fit the mold. But, it has to be the best film of the year. Why is it that in the past two years the only films I leave the theater truly impressed by, are foreign ones?
Odessa,
after seeing the preview yesterday afternoon I know I must see THE WRESTLER. That may be the one to change my opinon of US made movies
