Good news for you A-TEAM fans out there

Apparently the movie is back in green light territory. Joe Carnahan, who directed the so-so SMOKING ACES and the excellent NARC, will be sitting in the director’s chair, with brothers Ridley and Tony Scott and original A-TEAM producer Stephen J. Cannell handling producing duties.
Here’s a bit from the Hollywood Reporter report…
Carnahan seems like an ideal candidate for A-TEAM which told the adventures of a group of US Army Special Forces who are on the run for a crime they didn’t commit. The team included Hannibal, the leader whose favorite line was “I love it when plan comes together; Face, a ladies man; Howling Mad Murdock, an unstable pilot; and B.A. Baracus, the surly muscle (B.A. stands for “Bad Attitude”).Â
And here, in case you’ve forgotten the glory that is THE A-TEAM, here’s the opening from the TV show.
Â
Sidenote: I once interviewed Mr. T over the phone, and he was hilarious. The guy never stopped chuckling or cracking jokes for the entire interview.

I’m sorry to sound negative, but, this is a chapter in our media history that needs to stay closed.
If they make this film, it is destined to become a Rotten Tomatoes and “Razzie” classic.
Why can they put together plans for something like this, but some DC (Comics) projects that I’ve been hoping for, such as Justice League, Green Lantern, and he upcoming Green Arrow movie (Super Max?) can’t seem to get beyond infancy?
There has to be more of a following for that stuff than for the A-Team (although, I’ll admit, as a child I did watch the A-Team, and even had all of the A-Team toys, my favorite of which was “Hannibal”).

here’s why, echo: because the A-team is a) just a very basic concept they can go anywhere with, and b) something that could very well exist in a real-world setting: Mercenaries in plain clothes. Superhero flicks are hard to get right - the skin-tight day-glo costumes make it difficult to make without looking just plain silly. There are exceptions, of course -
Dark Knight, Iron Man - they’re really more “armor” than costume.
X-Men - largely plain clothes, with realistic leather-looking costumes, not the comic versions.
Somehow Marvel’s Spidey and DC’s Superman pulled off the costume thing, but the rest of those DC characters would look pretty damn silly in live-action costumes, and yet fanboys will flip out if they arent represented exactly like in the comics. The only one on your list I coud see working is SuperMax, since in prison he wouldnt be in costume.
…in time though, I’m sure they’ll all get made (after all, the marketable superhero well is getting pretty dry). Let’s just hope they’re more like the successful ones listed above, and less like Fantastic Four, Daredevil, Elektra, Ghost Rider, Catwoman, The Phantom, etc…

It all depends on how serious they want to take it. It could be very good if done right, but my guess is it ends up somewhere between Charlies Angels and Dukes of Hazzard. My hopes aren’t high.

I agree with both of you. This is a good concept that could easily go very, very wrong (as could some of the movies that I wan to see, as well).
I can imagine George Clooney as “Hannibal”, which would bring along the Brad Pitts and Matt Damons. Maybe it could work, but, it is a huge gamble…….
Which 80’s show is next? It seems like they are all trying to resuscitate. Magnum PI would fall into the same category as A-Team.
Too bad they can’t look back to the old pulp publications, and make a quality film (pulp heroes have their own movies, the highest quality of the bunch being The Shadow, which isn’t saying much).
It will be interesting to see how they turn out.

They’ve been trying to do Magnum for a few years now. The most prominent rumor had them trying to get Matthew McCounaghey to star, which I think would actually work perfectly (though he’d better not try to do the mustache!)
as for the pulp stuff, I also hold hope for a good one someday. But whenever they try we end up with crap like THE SHADOW (Balwdwin) and THE SPIRIT.

I agree. McCounaghey shouldn’t try the mustache!!!!!
I share your opinion of the pulp films, too!!! Let’s hope.
