More Anderson analyses

Here are parts two and three in Matt Zoller Seitz’ ongoing examination of the work of director Wes Anderson. If you’ve only been reading the written part, be sure to click on those videos, because that’s where Matt really makes his case.

Part 2, found here, shows how Martin Scorsese, Mike Nichols and Richard Lester influenced Anderson. I never really spotted the Scorsese influence, but it’s definitely there. And Part 3, found here, focuses specifically on the late director Hal Ashby and how his deeply personal, somewhat political movies influenced Anderson. I’m surprised more isn’t made of the connections between Anderson’s RUSHMORE and Ashby’s HAROLD AND MAUDE. If you like RUSHMORE but have never seen HAROLD, be sure to check it out — especially if you’re a fan of the Cat Stevens songs on the RUSHMORE soundtrack.
