Movie Man
When film critic Will Pfeifer isn’t watching movies, he’s reading about movies, talking about movies, thinking about movies or dreaming about movies. Now he shares that unhealthy obsession with you. Here’s part four of Matt Zoller Seitz’ examination of the movies of Wes Anderson, switching from the cinematic to the literary with a look at Anderson and J.D. Salinger.

By the way, last week I linked to an Onion review of THE IRON GIANT and mentioned how, like virtually everyone who commented on the review, I get teary-eyed at the end of that movie when the robot says “Superman.” Well, THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS (starring Gene Hackman, above) has a similar effect on me. Near the end, when Chas (Ben Stiller) says to his father (Hackman) “I’ve had a rough year, dad,” it always gets me choked up.

Talking about LOST

Here’s something a little bit different from the usual Movie Man fare — a podcast wherein Register Star Billy Kulpa and yours truly discuss the most recent episode of ABC’s LOST.

It’s about 18 minutes long, and it’s just a couple of guys talking about TV. Nothing too serious or strenuous; the perfect thing to pass the time at work.

Sure, it’s not — strictly speaking — film-related, but I’m guessing there are some LOST fans among all your cinemaphiles who might get a kick out of this. We’re hoping to do more podcasts — and more movie-related podcasts — in the weeks to come.

Here’s the link.
