Thanks to the impending July 4 holiday, I won’t be here tomorrow to post my usual installment of Friday videos. So, in honor of that same holiday, I’m sharing one of my favorite movie scenes of all time — and one that makes my heart beat proudly for the red, white and blue. Ladies and gentlemen, devote 8 minutes of so of your weekend to watching Chuck Yeager (as played by Sam Shepard) break the sound barrier…

i love this movie and how low-tech it all feels. they would CG the living crap out of it now and it would lose all of visceral energy. great pick, will!

I’m with you — those special effects work perfectly. CGI would make everything much too slick.
This movie is so full of great scenes I had a tough time choosing just one. I almost picked the scene of Shepard (Scott Glenn) on the launch pad and saying — in one of my favorite movie lines of all time — “Why don’t you fix your little problems and light this candle?!?”
Boy, do I love that movie!
