Another trip down the LOST HIGHWAY

Scott Tobias’ New Cult Canon series over at the Onion AV Club continues today with one of David Lynch’s less-heralded efforts, 1997’s LOST HIGHWAY.
I’ve seen LOST HIGHWAY three times, all on the big screen (including one mind-bending night at the Rockford’s late, lamented Storefront Cinema where I screened it twice in a row). I’ve always liked it in an odd way, falling under its nightmarish/hypnotic spell, but like most critics, I though Lynch’s 2000 MULHOLLAND DR. took a similar concept — the movie switches gears midway through and becomes a whole other story — in a more successful direction. But after reading Tobias’ review — and watching those ultra-creepy clips — I think I’ll dig LOST HIGHWAY out of my self-burned DVD collection and give it another spin. If nothing else, it’ll give me another glimpse of Robert Blake at his most ominous… well, onscreen anyway.
Here’s the trailer….
